MAA Reunion Dinner:14th October 2010

Building on the success of last year's event, the second of the reinstated MAA Reunion Dinners will take place on Thursday 14th October  at Balls Brothers, Mincing Lane in London.

There will be a champagne reception followed by a three course dinner and the evening will cost £60. Do put the date in your diary and spread the word - we would be grateful for your help in putting tables of 10 together. More details will be sent out shortly but if you would like more information now please email tory.williams@miltonabbey.co.uk. We are pleased to confirm that the new headmaster (see below), Gareth Doodes, will be attending.

After this dinner we are planning to hold the reunion dinners every two years, continuing with the next dinner in 2012 in London and then a special event at Milton Abbey in 2014 to celebrate the School's 60th anniversary.

Taking over the Helm

On 5th March, the Governors announced the appointment of Gareth Doodes as the new Headmaster, taking over from Jonathan Hughes-D’Aeth when he leaves to head up Repton, Dubai, later this year.

Gareth, who joined Milton Abbey as Deputy Headmaster last September, was educated at Eastborne College in Sussex and St Andrews University, where he read history.

He attained his teaching qualification at Cambridge University and started his career at Taunton School in Somerset as a history teacher.

Gareth moved on to Oakham School, Rutland, where he was firstly Master of Scholars, and then, for five years, a Housemaster.

Gareth said: ‘I so enjoyed meeting a number of Old Miltonians when I attended the AGM in London towards the end of April. Since my arrival at Milton Abbey, I have been consistently impressed by the good nature, kindness, generosity and politeness of former pupils. I echo a comment made to me by a leading London lawyer, who employs some former Milton Abbey pupils – that I have never met a better, or more loyal, collection of people. My vision for Milton Abbey is to continue producing fine, upstanding young men and women. I want to provide opportunities for everyone and to develop confident, interested, independent and ambitious gentle men and gentle women, who all have big achievements, big ambitions, and big hearts.” Gareth will be attending, and speaking, at the reunion dinner in October (see above) and is looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible there.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM will took place on Monday 26th April 2010, minutes are available from lindsey.kelly@miltonabbey.co.uk

Sporting Fixtures

Upcoming sporting fixtures include the Hornets cricket weekend on 9th - 11th July. Please see the Sports Calendar for more information and contact details if you would like to take part.

Milton Abbey School Campaign

The school's 'Educating, not just teaching' Campaign has organised more than 20 events around the country to bring together Old Boys and Girls, parents and friends of Milton Abbey to hear about plans for the school's future.

It has been encouraging to see so many Old Miltonians turning up to these events and choosing to support the Campaign.

The current total stands at over £800,000 towards the £1.5 million target - an excellent effort. If you would like more information please contact the co-ordinator Lindsey Kelly at lindsey.kelly@miltonabbey.co.uk.

Rugby and Football reports now available on the Events page.

The Old Boys v Blandford Barbarians rugby match and the Old Boys v School football match were both very successful, see the
Events section for write-ups and photos.

Reunion Dinner

The first Milton Abbey Association Reunion Dinner to be held for many years on 12th November in London was hugely successful. It was well attended with 130 Old Boys and 5 previous members of staff coming to the black tie event.
